Mixed Director Fortunes For Upcoming Superhero Movies

2003′s Daredevil was one of the most under-performing superhero movies of the last decade, and a similar fate was suffered by the duo of Fantastic 4 movies, with each receiving fairly unanimous negative criticism.

Clearly, a reboot of both franchises was on the cards and they are indeed both happening. But one is having trouble getting going whereas the other is starting to steam ahead.

Daredevil has drawn the short straw here; the long-gestating project has lost its director – David Slade – which signals bad news for leather-clad superhero. The director already has commitments to a forthcoming TV series based in the universe of Hannibal and cannot take on another project.

With this issue causing a production delay, 20th Century Fox are at risk of losing the rights to Daredevil to either Marvel Studios or Disney if they don’t get started by autumn.

However, a more pleasing story has befallen the Fantastic 4 reboot with long-rumoured director Josh Trank now officially directing the picture.

The Chronicle helmer has now taken the reigns of the next Marvel property to hit production, with release date being revealed soon. Trank is also in the running for a Venom-based movie, but Fox expect the Fantastic 4 reboot to be the next film he takes command of.
